Assembly members pass legislation, review, amend and approve the state budget submitted by the governor, and review the performance of state agencies. Candidates who win in November will be paid a minimum salary of $130 per day for the first 60 days of a 120-day regular session in addition to a communications allowance of $2,800, and a postage allowance of $60. They also receive a living allowance of about $140 for each day that the Legislature is in session subject to change every October based on the amounts set by the U.S. General Services Administration. Costs for travel and moving are limited to $10,000. Those who live more than 50 miles from the Legislature receive a supplemental housing allowance equivalent to fair market value for rent for a one-bedroom in the Carson City area. Committee chairs or other leadership positions receive an additional $900 allowance for communications expenses.
